Google Planning for 7-inch Tablet

Google is all set to make its mark in the ever growing tablet industry later this year with the launch of a 7 inch tablet. The Google-branded tablet is expected to come with a screen display resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

As per the sources, it has to be believed that the company is planning to begin production of this tablet by April of this year. The initial production run is expected to be somewhere between 1.5 million to 2 million units. The device is expected to provide one of the stiffest competitions to the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet that also comes with a 7 inch display followed by a display resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

It is not clear whether Google is planning to launch the device as a premium product or as an Amazon Kindle Fire competitor. The device is expected to make use of the popular Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It is also expected that Google will release the tablet at a price tag of $199 similar to that of the Amazon Kindle Fire.

It is still not clear why Google seems to be in a hurry to launch the 7-inch tablet taking in to consideration the fact that planned acquisition of Motorola is round the corner which will give the company ownership of three tablets that includes 10.1 inch Xoom, 10.1 inch Xyboard as well as 8.2 inch Xyboard.

Analysts say that the relative success of the 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet may be one reason Google is craving for the 7-inch tablet market. Google seems to be in a mood to stop the dominance of Amazon Kindle Fire tablet across the international market by establishing a base in the tablet market with the launch of its 7-inch tablet by the end of this year.

Asus MeMO 171 in Asia

Asus MeMO 171 tablet with all the capabilities of a Smartphone as well. This is intriguing. Samsung recently came out with their answer to this question, in the form of Samsung Galaxy Note. Samsung Galaxy Note is super-sized, and is called a miniature Tablet like smartphone in forums. With the Galaxy Note’s success, LG soon replied with the LG Optimus Vu. Apparently, Acer thinks it’s their turn now.

Asus’s new launch is a bigger and better electronic device than the Note and the Vu, giving rise to speculations about whether the device is actually a monster-sized smartphone or a decent tablet with everything a smartphone offers. Known as Asus Eee Pad MeMO 171, it can now be confirmed as a tablet with smartphone capabilities, according to its landing page in the official website of Asus.

The fact is obvious from the tag line of the MeMO 171 as well – A pad you need is a phone indeed. The Asus Eee Pad MeMO 171 is accompanied by a MeMIC Bluetooth headset as well, and it sports a brilliant 7 inch huge touchscreen Stylus-friendly display. However the package with the Bluetooth headset is reported to be made available on in a few selected countries. With the headset, users can read messages, listen to media, and make calls as well. The first thing you would notice in the tablet is the display. The specifications are quite awesome as well.

Key specifications of MeMO 171:

  • 7 inch WXGA Backlit Super IPS+ Gorilla glass display
  • 16 GB internal storage
  • 1.2 GHz dual Core Qualcomm processor
  • microSD card support
  • Android Honeycomb 3.2 version
  • Built in stylus
  • 1.3 Megapixel front camera

The specifications of the primary camera at the rear isn’t confirmed yet, but the 1.3 Megapixel front camera, which has been confirmed, means the tablet will be supporting video chatting as well. There are still doubts whether there would be an update to the OS to the ICS version, but it is due to be confirmed. The Eee Pad MeMO 171 Asus tablet will be out for sale in Asian countries starting from March, and the price is said to be equivalent to $600.
