LG Optimus 3D Max and ZTE Mimosa X

LG Optimus 3D Max and ZTE Mimosa X are two new handsets recently announced by LG and ZTE respectively. With the two handsets being announced in the same month, speculations started rising and forums started debating whether the Optimus 3D Max is the better of the two. One thing is for sure though, both the handsets are powerhouses.

The Optimus 3D Max stands out, because it’s a 3D phone with a 4.3 inch 3D capacitive touchscreen display. The ZTE Mimosa X on the other hand, has a qHD display of unknown size and resolution. The display size is speculated to be about the same as Optimus 3D Max. If you are someone who prefers a great camera in your handset and if you are left with these two as the only choices, then LG Optimus 3D Max is your best bet, as it sports a dual 5 Megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, video stabilization, 1080p full HD and 720p HD video recording at 30 fps.

The Mimosa X sports a decent 5 Megapixel camera but its features aren’t known as of yet. Both the handsets are reported to feature VGA cameras at the front. The significant difference is in the OS and the processor. The Optimus 3D Max will be running in Android v2.3 Gingerbread version while the Mimosa X is an ICS based handset. However, there will be an ICS update for the 3D Max, quite soon after it’s launched.

Powered by a Cortex A9 processor of 1.2 GHz clockspeed, Optimus 3D Max also equips PowerVR GPU. The source of Mimosa X’s power is the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, with the clockspeed and other hardware details unrevealed. But it’s been reported that the Mimosa X equips a NVIDIA Icera 450 HSPA+ modem. So the phone basically has its own modem rather than being one, which is advantageous in a number of ways.

A clear victor cannot be determined unless and otherwise users get a hands-on experience with these super sleek devices. But for the moment, LG Optimus 3D Max dominates the ZTE Mimosa X, which might likely change once the handsets are released.

Nokia Carla Devices to Enter Market Soon

Nokia has now introduced the Symbian Belle version for majority of its existing Anna smartphones. At present, the company is getting ready to launch Nokia Carla for every compatible device.

The first smartphones operating under Nokia Carla which is gone to the hit the market will be released in Q3 of this year. According to the newest reports, the second generation Belle smartphone including the Nokia 603, 700 & 701 will first migrate to new version of Nokia Carla OS. Afterward, by Q4, the remaining Belle running smartphones in the Nokia portfolio including N8, E6, E7, C7, C6-01 and Nokia X7 will get upgraded to Carla.

Furthermore, Nokia Carla will be circulated to all smartphones presently on Belle. There’s a trivial, but significant difference between the first generation and second generation Belle smartphones. The first version had no NFC support and came with less clock frequency of 1 GHz CPUs. This is the reason why Nokia decided to employ a trimmed down version of Carla to all the initial Belle smartphones. For those devices a lighter version updates shall be provided to evade performance hiccups. However, browser & resizable widgets can be built in along with other better smoothness & bug fixes. The newer 1GHz Belle devices can rise on up to Carla and probably to Donna.

The main improvements seen in Carla when compared with Belle are,

  • NFC
  • Dolby surround
  • New improved Widgets
  • Improved Browser (Version 8)

Finally, we can conclude that the Nokia Pure View (successor of Nokia N8) won't be the last device running on Carla. As a minimum, there would be at least 2 more Carla smartphones which would be out in the market by this year end. Moreover, Nokia also plans a worldwide roll-out for Carla, so that the users could obtain the update all at the same time.

Motorola Droid Razr Maxx Red Carpet Edition

What more publicity would a mobile manufacturing company need for their handsets, than being held by a renowned celebrity? Motorola’s new strategy is apparently going to give more publicity for its handsets. Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, one of the long running successful handsets, Motorola ever created, now comes as a limited edition model as well.

The limited edition Razr Maxx, known as the Red Carpet edition can be yours, if you are a celebrity. Reportedly it is not just presented to any celebrity alone. Motorola decided to show off their Droid Maxx limited edition amidst the glitz and glamour of the Academy Awards this year. Those celebrities, who will be present the function and get nominated for Academy Awards, would receive the Red Carpet edition handsets.

The combination of a sleek design and a vivid red color makes this special edition Razr Maxx a perfect stylish handset fit for a celebrity. For ladies, the Red Carpet gift pack would have a gold pouch in addition to the limited edition model. For males, instead of the gift pouch, it would be a cool high end shaving kit. The gift packs will also pack a Motorola ELITE SILVER Bluetooth headset as well. The headset goes great with the super stylish Red Carpet Droid Razr Maxx.

Reportedly, there aren’t any changes in the specification of the handset. Although, celebrities are the lucky ones here as well, Motorola then announced that five Red Carpet editions would be gifted to the lucky participants of the company’s Twitter sweepstakes. So unless you become a celebrity, make it to Hollywood, and get nominated for an Academy award, you won’t be able to get your hands on the Razr Maxx Red Carpet edition. The only other alternative is just being plain lucky, once you start following Motorola in Twitter.

Waterproof Handset with 13 MP Camera from Fujitsu in MWC 2012

The Consumer Electronics Show, CES had a lot of items on display which captured the hearts of the audience. Many major manufacturers revealed their plans for this year and a few of them demonstrated a number of cool handsets. While there were many handsets at the CES, which sported powerful hardware and great camera specifications, Fujitsu was slightly more successful in impressing the audience with an awesome new handset. Fujitsu, however, didn’t reveal all the details of the handset at the CES. Instead they promised that things would be made clear at the MWC.

With the Mobile World Congress closing in, Fujitsu apparently decided to reveal a few details of the handset. At the CES, it was revealed that the Fujitsu handset was a powerhouse equipped with an efficient Tegra 3 processor. Reportedly, the Fujitsu handset will be sporting a 13 Megapixel camera.

The Fujitsu handset also supports NFC connectivity. The handset will offer more security with the on-board fingerprint scanner as well so as to thwart unauthorized access to the phone. If you think this is impressive, you would be more surprised at one other cool fact about the Fujitsu smartphone. The handset is designed to be completely waterproof and dust resistant.

The CES showcased a few similar Japanese devices that are dust proof and waterproof. The reason behind this was explained to be a nanocoating. Fujitsu is believed to be using this nanocoating to make the handset waterproof and dustproof, but it hasn’t been officially confirmed. The MWC will probably shed some light on this feature. The 13 Megapixel camera supports 25600 ISO setting and the images are going to look awesome with the superb 4.6 inch High definition display of the Fujitsu handset.

The handset, popularly known as Fujitsu Arrows for now, is expected to run in Android Ice Cream Sandwich as well. Hopefully, MWC will reveal more surprising details about the handset.
